Dr. Kulkarni Recognized in Courier News

ROBBINSVILLE - The American Heart Association recognized two local women for their extraordinary contributions to health, society and other women.

Rachana Kulkarni, MD, FACC and the Rev. Natalie Mitchem, RD, received Women of Distinction awards at the 15th Annual Garden State Go Red For Women Luncheon on Friday, May 19, at the Westin Princeton at Forrestal in Princeton.

The Annual American Heart Association Woman of Distinction Awards recognize and celebrate women promoting a healthy lifestyle for and among women. These women, make sustained, unique or extraordinary efforts to improve their community, as well as those that support and advance women’s issues. In addition to these efforts, women recognized serve as a role model to women.

Dr. Kulkarni was recognized in the Business, Industry and Healthcare category and the Rev. Mitchem was recognized in the Education, Non-Profit, Community and Civic category.

Dr. Kulkarni is a cardiologist and managing partner with Medicor Cardiology in Hillsborough and chairman of the Department of Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerset. She is also a member of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association South-Central New Jersey Regional Board of Directors and served on the Executive Leadership Team for the Garden State Go Red For Women movement.

“From a patient’s perspective, her compassion and understanding are extremely comforting and helpful,” said Debra Teal of Bedminster, a patient of Dr. Kulkarni and survivor ambassador for the American Heart Association.

Dr. Kulkarni introduced Teal to the Garden State Go Red For Women movement in 2016 and was able to connect with other survivors.
